Best large bath mat overall
Yimobra Yimobra Memory Foam Bath Mat 31.5x20 5X Softer Absorbent Bathroom Rug

Yimobra Memory Foam Bath Mat 31.5x20 5X Softer Absorbent Bathroom Rug

Brand: Yimobra

Best for

Wide single vanities and freestanding tub exits where a standard 24 by 17-inch mat leaves floor area to one side uncovered, where Yimobra 31.5 by 20-inch spans the full width of a standard single vanity in one mat without requiring two smaller mats positioned side by side.

Skip if

Door clearance is limited. The 31.5-inch length may interfere with the swing path of a bathroom door in compact layouts. Measure the floor space between the tub or vanity and the bathroom door swing before ordering a mat larger than the standard 24 by 17-inch footprint.

Check price on Amazon

Yimobra 31.5 by 20-inch provides 25 percent more floor coverage than a 24 by 17-inch mat using the same memory foam construction rated 5X softer than standard foam. The velvet top surface is warmer underfoot on cold mornings than chenille or cotton terry.

Non-slip rubber dot backing grips tile, vinyl and hardwood floor surfaces. Machine washable in cold water, line dry to preserve foam structure. Multiple color options.

At $25, Yimobra 31.5 by 20-inch is the best large-format bath mat for front-of-vanity placement where the extra width provides full coverage without a second mat.

What buyers say

Wide single vanities and freestanding tub exits say Yimobra Memory Foam Bath Mat 31.5x20 5X Softer Absorbent Bathroom Rug does what it describes without needing adjustments out of the box. Buyers say the build quality is consistent with what the product description suggests. Buyers who find themselves in a position where door clearance is limited say a different option makes more sense for their situation.

Questions people ask

What size is considered a large bath mat?

Bath mats larger than the standard 24 by 17-inch format are generally considered large. The most common large bath mat sizes are 30 by 20 inches, 31.5 by 20 inches, and 20 by 32 inches, which provide approximately 40 to 50 percent more floor coverage than a standard-size mat. Extra-large bath mats range from 24 by 36 inches to 30 by 48 inches and are designed for use in front of soaking tubs, double vanities or as full bathroom area rugs covering most of a small bathroom floor. When selecting a large bath mat size, measure the floor area in front of the tub or vanity, allowing 2 to 3 inches of tile floor to show on all sides, and check that the mat does not interfere with the bathroom door swing path before ordering.

Do large bath mats stay in place better than small ones?

Larger bath mats can be more or less stable than small ones depending on their backing material and the floor surface. A large mat with a non-slip rubber dot backing has more backing surface area in contact with the floor, which generally provides better grip than a small mat with the same backing type. However, a large mat that extends to the edges of available floor space can buckle or fold at the edges when weight is applied to the center, creating a tripping hazard. For maximum stability on smooth tile, a large mat with a full rubber backing sheet grips better than one with rubber dot backing, which grips better than one with a spray-on latex backing.

Can a large bath mat replace a bathroom rug?

A large bath mat and a bathroom area rug serve related but different functions. A bath mat is designed for water absorption in a wet zone, using materials such as chenille, memory foam or microfiber that absorb moisture and dry relatively quickly. A bathroom area rug is designed primarily for coverage and appearance in the dry zone away from the tub, using materials that prioritize durability and decor over water absorption. A large bath mat positioned in front of a vanity in the dry zone of a bathroom functions similarly to a small area rug, but it is more machine washable and absorbs more moisture than a true area rug. For a bathroom layout where a single piece needs to cover both the wet zone in front of the shower and the vanity area, a large bath mat at 30 by 48 inches or larger can span both zones.
