Meat Thermometers

Instant-read and leave-in probe thermometers for accurate meat temperature at the center.

A meat thermometer is the only reliable way to determine whether meat has reached a safe internal temperature. Visual cues (color, juices running clear) are not accurate indicators of doneness. An instant-read thermometer (Thermapen, ThermoPop) gives a temperature reading in 2 to 3 seconds when inserted into the thickest part of the meat; it is not left in the oven during cooking. A leave-in probe thermometer stays in the meat during cooking and alerts when the target temperature is reached; it is useful for roasts and whole birds that cook for hours. A wireless probe thermometer (MEATER) connects to a smartphone and monitors temperature remotely. This section covers meat thermometers by read speed, probe type, wireless connectivity and accuracy rating.
