Cat Litter Boxes

Open, covered and self-cleaning litter boxes sized for cats of different ages and sizes.

Cat litter box selection depends on the cat's size, age and preference for privacy. A covered litter box reduces odor spread and gives cats privacy, but some cats refuse to use a covered box because they feel trapped inside. An uncovered box is easier for kittens and senior cats to enter and exit without climbing over a high threshold. A self-cleaning litter box (LitterMaid, Litter-Robot) rakes or rotates used litter into a sealed compartment automatically after each use, reducing daily scooping to a weekly waste drawer disposal. Box size should allow the cat to turn around and dig comfortably; a box that is too small causes cats to eliminate outside the box. This section covers litter boxes by size, cover type, self-cleaning mechanism and odor control design.
