Best quick dry bath mat: fast-drying picks on Amazon

A quick-dry bath mat uses thin microfiber, diatomaceous earth or open-weave construction to dry in minutes rather than the hours required by memory foam or thick chenille mats. Drying speed, absorption capacity, non-slip backing and cleaning ease determine which type suits a given bathroom.

By Pickspry EditorialUpdated 4 picks

The short answer

tchdio Thin Bath Mat at $18 is the best quick-dry bath mat for most bathrooms: the ultra-thin microfiber construction fits under standard bathroom doors that would catch a thicker mat, absorbs water from wet feet in one step and air-dries within 30 minutes in a ventilated bathroom.

Best quick-dry bath mat overall
tchdio tchdio Bath Mat Absorbent Quick Dry Thin Bathroom Rugs Fit Under Door

tchdio Bath Mat Absorbent Quick Dry Thin Bathroom Rugs Fit Under Door

Brand: tchdio

Best for

Bathrooms where the door swings over the floor area where the bath mat sits, where tchdio thin construction slides under a door that would catch on the pile of a thick memory foam or chenille mat and stop the door from opening fully.

Skip if

A cushioned underfoot feel is needed. tchdio is an ultra-thin mat focused on quick drying and door clearance rather than underfoot cushioning. For users who want thick foam cushioning underfoot, memory foam bath mats provide more comfort at slightly longer drying time.

Check price on Amazon

tchdio thin bath mat uses a flat microfiber construction with minimal pile height that clears the sweep gap under standard bathroom doors without catching or bunching. The microfiber surface absorbs water quickly from wet feet despite the thin profile.

Air-drying time after use is significantly shorter than memory foam or thick chenille mats because the thin construction retains less moisture. Machine washable, tumble dry low.

At $18, tchdio thin bath mat is the best quick-dry choice for bathrooms where door clearance limits the height of the mat that can be placed at the tub exit.

What buyers say

Bathrooms say tchdio Bath Mat Absorbent Quick Dry Thin Bathroom Rugs Fit Under Door does what it describes without needing adjustments out of the box. Buyers say the build quality is consistent with what the product description suggests. Buyers who find themselves in a position where a cushioned underfoot feel is needed say a different option makes more sense for their situation.

MINIDEAR Bathroom Rugs 24x17 Pure White Thick Memory Foam Bath Mat Ultra Soft

Brand: MINIDEAR

Hargiis Hargiis Non Slip Bathtub Mat Anti Slip Fast Drying Tub Mat

Hargiis Non Slip Bathtub Mat Anti Slip Fast Drying Tub Mat

Brand: Hargiis

Check price on Amazon

Questions people ask

What is the fastest-drying bath mat material?

Diatomaceous earth bath mats dry the fastest of all bath mat materials, absorbing water within seconds and drying completely within 15 to 30 minutes because the porous stone material draws moisture away from the surface through capillary action. However, diatomaceous earth mats are rigid, crack if dropped, and do not have non-slip backing, requiring separate non-slip padding underneath on tile floors. Among fabric and foam bath mats, thin microfiber dries faster than chenille, which dries faster than memory foam. A thin microfiber mat in a ventilated bathroom typically dries within 1 to 2 hours after use. A thick memory foam mat may take 4 to 8 hours to dry completely in the same conditions. Hanging the mat over the tub edge or a towel bar after use accelerates drying for all material types by allowing air circulation on both sides.

Does a quick-dry bath mat still absorb water well?

Quick-dry bath mats balance water absorption speed against drying speed. Thin microfiber mats absorb water quickly from wet feet because microfiber has a high surface-area-to-volume ratio, but they hold less total water volume than thick memory foam because they are thinner. For drying wet feet from a shower, thin microfiber absorbs the water present on the foot in one or two steps. For dripping-wet feet or heavily splashed bath areas, a thicker chenille or memory foam mat handles more total water volume before feeling saturated. The practical measure is whether the mat can absorb the water from one person's wet feet per use without feeling saturated.

How do you dry a bath mat faster?

Hanging the bath mat over the edge of the tub, a towel bar or a door after each use allows air to circulate on both the top pile surface and the underside backing, reducing drying time by 50 percent or more compared to leaving the mat flat on the floor where the backing traps moisture against the tile. In humid bathrooms without a ventilation fan, running the bathroom exhaust fan for 15 to 30 minutes after showering reduces ambient humidity and accelerates mat drying. Rotating two bath mats so one is hung to dry while the other is in use prevents any single mat from staying perpetually damp in a high-traffic bathroom.
