A solid horizontal banner rather than flag pennants is preferred. Pennant banners use individual triangular flags on a string that creates a bunting appearance. Users who want a solid horizontal banner with letters on a connected background (like a Amscan foil banner) should choose a different banner style.

Whaline Happy Birthday pennant banner uses individual triangular letter flags strung on twine. Each flag has one letter of "Happy Birthday" printed or appliqued on the pennant face. The fabric material allows reuse across multiple events without the single-use limitation of foil banners.

The string length allows the banner to drape loosely or stretch taut depending on hanging point spacing. The pennant bunting style pairs well with balloon garlands and creates a festive layered look when combined with other decorations.

At $8, Whaline pennant banner costs $3 more than the Amscan foil banner with reusability across multiple events.

Questions people ask

How do I hang a party banner without damaging walls?

Three no-damage hanging methods work for party banners: removable adhesive strips (Command Strips or similar), painter's tape and balloon tape. Command Decorating Clips are designed for hanging fabric and paper banners on walls without nails; they use adhesive that removes cleanly from painted walls when pulled straight down. Painter's tape (1 to 2 inch wide) applied to the back of the banner at hanging points and then pressed to the wall provides strong temporary adhesion without leaving residue on most painted surfaces. For banners that need to hang from a string, small S-hooks on removable adhesive hooks (3M Command hooks) create a hanging point that removes without wall damage. Avoid standard masking tape, which can pull paint from walls when removed, and avoid foam mounting tape which is often not designed for clean removal.

How far in advance can I put up party banners?

Put up party banners 1 to 2 days before the event. Banners hung several days before an event may droop, shift or collect dust. Foil banners maintain their appearance well in a climate-controlled room for 1 to 2 days before the party without significant change. Fabric pennant banners can be hung a week before without damage. For outdoor events, hang banners the morning of the event to avoid weather degradation. Banners exposed to humidity develop wrinkling; banners exposed to wind may tear at hanging points. Indoor banners in temperature-controlled spaces maintain their appearance longer than outdoor banners in variable conditions.

What size party banner do I need for a standard room?

For a standard living room or dining room birthday party, a 6 to 8 foot banner is the standard recommended size. A 6-foot banner fits comfortably on most interior walls between two windows or above a fireplace. For larger event venues, recreation halls or outdoor covered areas, a 10 to 12 foot banner is more proportionate to the larger space. Party banners that are too small relative to the wall look insubstantial in party photos. The standard Amscan foil banner is approximately 6 feet and fits most home party settings well. Custom banners ordered from print services can be sized to exact wall dimensions for installations where banner size is a priority.
