Maximum ventilation for hot-weather climbing is the priority. Premium models like the Giro Aether or POC Ventral SPIN provide more aggressive channeled airflow for extended climbing in heat.
The Giro Syntax uses in-mold polycarbonate construction, which bonds the outer shell directly to the EPS foam liner for a lighter result than traditional two-piece construction. The 25-vent design draws air from the forehead opening and channels it through interior passages to exhaust at the rear.
The MIPS liner sits between the helmet shell and the head, able to rotate 10-15mm on impact to reduce the rotational acceleration transferred to the brain during angled crashes. Giro's Roc Loc 5 Air retention system adjusts at the rear with a dial and uses an integrated headband for fine-tuned fit across head shapes.
At $75, the Syntax MIPS is the standard mid-range road helmet with rotational impact protection.
